2015 - We're off to a Scorcher!

2015! And the Smooth Knobblies celebrate their 8th year of existence. Its easy for me to remember - its the same number of (now named) Cape Town Cycle Tours (aka The Argus) that I have completed.

Last year we had 25 riders competing in the Endomondo Challenge and the group smashed it! Check out some of the stats:

CrankMan Shaun averaged 1000km a month. Thats about 33km a day. Every day. For the whole year. For the working man with kids, work, and other responsibilities, that's a decent return on 2014! Well done Shaun.

We're back into 2015 with much gusto! The Cape Town Cycle Tour and Cape Epic has everyone frothing at the mouth and weekends are choc-a-bloc with cyclists everywhere! Throw in some  characteristically good weather and the top of Chappies on a Saturday morning is like a flea market offering free pancakes.

So good luck to everyone training for events. Please be safe on the road and if you're driving, Keep Wider of the Rider!!  Here are some pics from 2015 so far:

Garin will tell you he didn't see the sign (ja right!)

Shaun takes to the air on the Methanol. This pic is due to feature in the Bicycling March 2015 edition...

Shanana - haring down the Glen (one of the best kept single-track secrets in the centre of town!)

24 Hours of Oak Valley - on our way to the podium (2nd in sub-vets : The O-rings!)

Podium time!

Getting to the top of Karbonkelberg (above Hout Bay) is always an amazing feat. Its a kick-ass climb that really reminds you about the adventure that you can have on a bike.

And the path up Karbonkelberg can be a little overgrown at times....
Sometimes we even venture out up the West Coast - and take full advantage of the cycle lanes heading up towards Blouberg L-R Nic Stopforth; Rocky; Woody

Members of the Tokai Cyclelab Wolfpack sprint past Madibas Rock towards Smitswinkel on an early morning ride

Just two of the advantages of getting up and out early: amazing views and quiet roads

Father and Daughter pic... (OK - no not really. Billy is way too good looking to be related! :-) )

The mighty O-Rings chill before tackling the 24 Hour challenge. L-R Otto Remke; Garin Walker; Jason O Brian; Woody

Dylan, Roger, Ant and John all look on whilst Shaun apparently smashes ahead, eyes closed!

Lambo in full battle gear. Always one to keep himself updated on the latest bike tech, here he experiments with S&M Safe Cycling Apparel....
