You just have to love these "what my friends think I do" mails doing the rounds. Perceptions of cyclists are no different. Through years of experience we have found the following stereotypes to be quite true though:
- Road cyclists don't greet other cyclists. Especially if they're riding on the Atlantic seaboard. In white. Too cool for school!
- Mountain bikers are grubbier and more friendly. Perhaps its the unshaven legs that makes them more approachable?
- Anyone who rides in the mountain with shorts instead of bibs will probably stop to help another biker fix a flat. They just don't have any haste issues!
- Downhill mountain bikers should pack a flask when they go riding. The amount of times we've seen these dirtbike wannabees standing around and talking in the forest would make you think they're actually a support group of sorts. Two sugars please....
- Triathlete cyclists are the lone wolves of the cycling community. Those tri-bars on the front of their squashed bikes immediately put them into the "I train alone" category. They swim in isolation for hours on end as well - why break the silence?
OK - perhaps too facetious? Ah well - all meant to be in good faith!! Relax in your slacks.
